Reflective Narrative:
JAPN 401 fulfilled MLO1 because it largely revolved around the proper pronunciation and intonation of Japanese. Pronunciation and intonation is important in any language, but especially in Japanese which has many words that are spelled the same yet pronounced differently. If the word is mispronounced, the meaning changes and can cause confusion for the listener. Throughout the semester, we practiced our pronunciation and intonation through shadowing and repetition. At the end of the semester, we wrote a self-introduction and recorded ourselves until we were certain that the intonation and pronunciation was correct, and then at the end of the semester we recited it in front of the class (doc).
