Reflective Narrative:
This course fulfilled MLO3 because I was able to compare latino history and culture with what I was learning about Japan. As a Mexican-American, I mistakenly believed that I would already be familiar with the topics that the class would cover, but I was surprised by how much I was able to learn. While my favorite topics were those that related to difficulties that Mexican-Americans went through, the course covered a large time period of history. This course also discussed events that significantly affected the latino experience, such as the idea of Manifest Destiny. As an assignment, we wrote a short paper detailing exactly what the Manifest Destiny was and explaining the negative effects it had to countries that America considers to be inferior (doc).
